I am still trying to catch my breath from installing our laminate flooring. In fact, I still haven’t caulked all the moulding yet but I started another project. My step-uncle came in town to remodel my mom’s bathroom so the time was NOW since he was helping me with mine. I have been dying to have a soaker tub put in our master bath since we moved in. To me there is nothing more relaxing after a long day then a soak in the tub with one of my favorite magazines or a book. It has been less than enjoyable to fit my 5’ 8” body into a cheap-o standard size tub.
I have literally done absolutely NO decorating in our master bath since I knew the day would come that we would at least remove the tub. I have had that shower curtain since the day we were married! I can’t wait to get some color in here!
We got the new tub in. It is 6” deeper, 4” longer and 6” wider. I tried it out and it is bliss!
Now I am just patching up drywall and taping and mudding. I also have to trim out the whole tub…which will be waaaay easier than filling it in with drywall and taping it.
I have never taped nor mudded before so this is a whole new experience for me. LOVES TO LEARN NEW STUFF!
Unfortunately it takes 24 hours to dry in between coats. This job definitely takes patience.
After I am all done with that I will primer it all and then paint it. I want to go with a light blue with a touch of gray in it. Does anyone have any paint color recommendations?
Ohhhhhh!! I am *so* jealous!! We almost didn't buy this house 6+ years ago because it doesn't have a soaker tub. We bought it anyhow and 6+ years later I'm still waiting for my soaker tub. Our master bathroom has a double size shower stall instead, but we think the space is big enough for a soaker tub in the style you have.
Was it tricky getting the bigger tub through the door?

Good work! I really want to add a tub to our master bath one day… but it'll be a while. I pale blue that I really like is Evening Shadow from Sherwin Williams. Good luck picking a color!
Ohhh you will loooove that! Teach me how to mud!
I love Autumn Fog from Lowe's Valspar collection. It's a light blue with some gray in it. I painted it in my son's room and I loved it so much that it's going in my master bath as well…and maybe a bit in my kitchen too. That's how much I love it.
My blog has a picture, but the photo doesn't really do it justice. Go check it out in person.

Sorry, that post was wrong. Here's the right one.

We did Valspar's Autumn Fog in our bedroom as well, but went one shade lighter for the upper wall above the trim called "Pelican" (same paint card).

I LOVE them both. It's so peaceful. 🙂 Can't wait to see your finished bathroom!
I just took advantage of the Home Depot sale on Glidden – $14.97 a gallon til Wednesday… and am going to paint Deepest Aqua on the walls, and Navajo Sand for trim. Going for tranquil and spa like. Water colors.
May be a tad greener that you want, but Silver Sage from Restoration Hardware would be nice! You can take a sample to Lowe's or Home Depot and have them match it (cheaper!)
So jealous…I am stuck in my 1980 standard, uncomfortable bathtub.
My favorite blue grey is a Ralph Lauren color called Light French Grey. I have recommended it to several friends and everyone loves it!!! Unfortunately, Home Depot doesn't carry RL paint anymore, but maybe you can find a color chip there???
I am so jealous! I can't wait to have a nice bathtub. I am excited to see how you decorate it.
We are just getting ready to do this…I am so scared…I have DIYed and fixed up a whole lot of stuff but now we are at kitchen and bathroom and these are projects I have not tackled before. I guess I will learn!

looks so great!
Taping and mudding is VERY difficult! Looks like you did a good job!
Oh goodness girl! Check out my bathroom color scenerios — so you know which colors to NOT try when attempting the whole light blue/gray color. I have ended up with a perfect color and still need to show it – but it is Benjamin Moore Herbal Escape. Love it! Has a tint of green to it also but matches our flooring perfectly. Can't wait to see all the progress!
Whoa… I shall NOT covet, but dang!
A week after we moved into our first house (a year ago) my husband tore out our soaker tub in the master bath, because the home inspector had mentioned he thought there MIGHT be a crack in the basin. Tore it out wrecklessly… And hasn't replaced it… Found no such leak, btw!
So… When we had our baby (#4), I decided to put his crib in that bald space! Now whn he mentions replacing the tub, I say "but where will we put the baby?". Can't win. Check out "the baby's room/shower" if u wish.

Can you post tips sometime about how to sqeeze extra money out of your budget for home projects? Our budget is tight and we're on the Dave Ramsey plan. I wanna do all your project though!
LUV it. 🙂 Next house. This is a must.
i am impressed that you are doing the taping and mudding yourself. i always leave that to my husband!
my kitchen and bedroom are both "Pelican" by… I think it is Valspar, I bought it at Lowes.

good luck picking out colors!
I love the blue grey color idea. I also love a light green with a hint of grey. Have you tried Devine paint? They are amazing, and have some nice color choices! Cant wait to see the finished project.
As a color consultant, I recommend Grey Owl by Benjamin Moore. I also like Woodlawn Blue for a nice blue. Calm and saturated colors for bathrooms. Check them out.
One more is from Ben Moore and is an Affinity Color called Serenata.
We did a color in our bedroom and the downstairs that I LOVES. It is from Lowes and it is called…. smokey slate. It is a olive green with some grey in it. He took the swatch to Sherwin Williams so I have that color match if you want it…
Oh I am jealous too. I never realized you could replace a standard tub space with a deeper longer one. Ours is between walls and very shallow. Wow I can't wait to see your finished space.
I have white tub and tile in my bathroom too. I painted the walls light turquoise. It's like taking a bath inside a Tiffany's box!
Well, it looks like you've got a spa going on, so I'd go with the aqua/turquoise tones. Turquoise is the 'in' color, as you well know and you'll find lots of fun accessories, towels, etc to coordinate.
I know you said blue & grey, but not sure what you have in those colors.
Also the touch of green in turquoise/aqua adds touches of serenity – to bring in the spa vibe.

Great job!! Wow – looks like a lot of work. But it will be worth it! I can't wait to see what color you end up going with!
XOXO

Great project, Beckie! I'm right in the middle of a tile project in my masterbath.
Try those sweet tater fries, you'll love them!
Have fun on your shopping excursion.
wow, glad to see that can be done quickly. I have to get the whirl pool tub out of my girls bathroom, it is just a pain to keep clean. Especially with teenagers!
I'm not much of a bathtub girl, but even at 5'2" I find standard tubs to be small. I'm sure you can hardly wait for that first soak – and I'm sure you'll need/deserve it after all the work you're doing! YAY!
