I’m Shayna from The Wood Grain Cottage and I’m here to share a project with you! Lately, I’ve been completely consumed with all things fall! I’m a big fan of fall projects, decorating, and baking, so it’s safe to say that I love this season! Today, I thought I’d share one of my latest fall projects, a DIY rustic tea light holder made from a fallen aspen log.
Not only do they look really pretty, but they’re also easy to make, and basically free! 😀 We started with your basic aspen limbs that had fallen. We cut each of them to size, making them 4″, 6″ and 8″ tall…
Then, found the center of each limb…
And used our drill press with a 1 1/2 drill bit to cut out the center… (If you don’t have a drill press, this could easily be done with just a regular drill!)
I used a standard tea light…
And we continued drilling until the candle sat flush in the hole…
We did the same thing to each and every one of them…
And then, they were ready to use!
I love them! They’re not only pretty, but they’re completely functional…
And that beautiful tree bark sends them over the edge!
They’re perfectly fall (& winter) and I’m really looking forward to using them throughout the seasons… 😀

We picked up an aspen log when we were in the woods getting our Christmas tree last year and I had my sweet husband do this exact thing for me. I love them and have left them out all year and just decorated around them!
I love these. My sister put cupcake liners with mints in the shortest, a tea light in the middle one and drilled a deeper hole in the large on to insert artificial roses in the tallest. They made lovely table decorations.
I LOVE the idea of using it for serving the mints. Awesome idea. Thanks for sharing!
