I love crafting with my kids in the summer. It’s an activity we ALL enjoy and gives kids the opportunity to explore and express themselves creatively. Not to mention it doesn’t involve screens or temperatures over 90 degrees! Today I am rounding up some simple crafts you can easily make with your kiddos this summer, and they all use recycled and repurposed materials. What can I say? I am a sucker for a good upcycle!
Jackie from Happy Hooligans says she has a soft spot for handmade garden ornaments. She let her kids loose with old CDs and DVDs and markers to make these colorful sun catchers. You could also use glitter, gem stickers, etc. Have fun with whatever craft supplies you have on hand!
I couldn’t agree with Emma Owl more when she says an egg carton doesn’t get much cuter than these little sea turtles! As Emma says, you can use this craft to discuss nature conservation and protecting the beaches where turtles lay their eggs with your kids. Maybe before a beach vacation?
Melanie from Artsy Creations shares a fun craft that involves upcycling bottle caps into bugs. You can have your kiddos create as assortment of real bugs like ladybugs and bees and then some of their own imaginary creatures!
Do you happen to have a couple of wooden spoons lying around? If not, you can pick them up at the dollar store and have your kiddos turn them into dragonflies with a little paint and wax paper. Kids will love playing with them as much as making them!
If your family is a fan of Shark Week, then you’ll all love this shark craft made from upcycled cardboard tubes. There is very minimal cost involved, and this is another craft that your kids will love to play with when the crafting is done.
