Lately I have been struggling with seeing projects through to completion.  Usually I am pretty good at it, staying up until 3 a.m if need be.  It is always that last 10% that gets me though.  For example, we finished installing our laminate flooring in our kitchen in the beginning of February.  Have I caulked all the molding yet?  Noooo.  We finished installing a new tub in our master in the end of February.  Had I hung the trim around it yet?  Noooo.  Does anyone besides me stink at finishing that last 10% of a project lately? Please tell me I am not alone. Chirp…chirp…dead silence.IMG_1455_thumb

To my defense I was mad at my bathroom trim.  And it laughed at me everyday when I looked at it.  See, back in March I did attempt to hang the trim and then this happened…IMG_1467

In my impatience to get the project done I used the wrong kind of caulk.  When I tried to paint over it the paint separated and the caulk showed through.

Well enough laughing and taunting me!  I finally got the project done.  Trim cut, corners mitered, nailed in place, painted, caulked and touched up.  So there!  Point Beckie! IMG_1954

IMG_1955 I know 99.9% of you could care less.  But this is a major feat people.  It had been looming over my head like the caulking that needs to be done in my kitchen a black cloud.  Now I can check it off my list.  Ahhhh…accomplishment.

And because I can’t finish a project before I start another lookie what is going on in the closet in our bathroom.  It started out looking like this…IMG_1865 and now it is painted and the carpet is pulled up and there is a big hole in the floor.

IMG_1956IMG_1958 Squuuuueal!  I can’t wait!  If you follow me on twitter you know what is going on.  If not, you will have to wait to see.

  1. I'm totally with ya on finishing that last 10%! We've done a complete make-over of our living room/kitchen, and I can't show the exciting "big reveal" b/c I haven't painted the doors, caulked the molding or finished painting over the kitchen cabinets….bleck! Yours looks great though! I'm excited to see what's going to become of those holes in the floor of your closet!

  2. I'm with you too!! We've spent months doing a little bit here and there making over our kitchen. Now all I lack is painting the drawers. (Yes, I painted ALL the cabinets last weekend and just didn't finish the drawers. What?!)

My husband is worse. I tell him he has Project ADD. When we start a project, he immediately wants to start 5 others. He doesn't even get one 90% done like we're talking about here. He'll do 4 minutes worth and then be like "I should really go cut some plywood for the attic floor." Um, it's waited 6 years. It can wait another day. 🙂

  3. I have half of my entry hallway taped with blue painters tape – I want stripes. I never realized the engineering it took. Visitors are not allowed.

  4. Oh my goodness Beckie, I am lucky now-a-days to get 50% through… I have major project commitment phobia and I think a major bit of project ADHD(is that what it is called?). I have not finished a single project in my home since I moved in, and I am so exhausted at the end of the day that staying up until 3 is out of the question. … I am hoping to finish something…. soon.

  5. I know exactly what you are talking about! Your finished molding looks great. 🙂

  6. We too used the wrong caulk on our bathroom remodel!!! Your finished job looks great though! I love that blue.

  7. Congrats on finishing the bathroom! It looks great! I can be like that sometimes…leaving the 10%. But my husband is always like that! Seriously. He will have 10 unfinished projects at a time. Too funny. Well, not really!
Can't believe I wasn't following you on twitter! I am now. Can't wait to see what you do with that closet.
    🙂

  8. Been there. That last 10% is killer and just begs for procrastination. You did a beautiful job!

  9. Nope…you are soooooo not alone on this one! I am the world's worst at finishing projects to full completion. Good to know I'm not alone.

Your bathroom is looking lovely. That blue on the walls is gorgeous. And I cannot wait to see what the hole in the floor is going to be! You always surprise me.

  10. I'm so impressed!!!! I remember when I was at your house and saw what you had already done. What an extra 10% really does to the project! It looks sooooo good!!!!

  11. Your bathroom looks gorgeous! I can't wait to see what else you've got going.
    God's blessings,
    Sarah 😀

  12. Oh my gosh! I am the SAME way! I totally fail at finishing projects. I always want to move onto the next one. I have about 5 that need finishing right now.

Can't wait to see what's going on with that hole. How have I missed that on Twitter?

    XOXO

  13. If it makes you feel any better there is something unfinished in every room of my house….uuugghh…one day I will get around to all the finishing touches. Probably when I move 😉

  14. I too am bad at finishing up a project. Sometimes taking years.
I re-did my kitchen 6 years ago and have yet to finish the crown molding on top of the cupboards, and caulking the crown at the ceiling. Usually when I hit a roadblock (like mitering the crown around the cabinet tops) I quit and simply ignore it for as long as possible.
In this case I figure it's time to remodel the kitchen again anyway, why bother finishing the first remodel at this point?
Oh, and my husband does not allow me to start a new home project until the old one is done. So I switched to furniture makeovers instead!

  15. I got the exact same problem!! Don't even get me started on all the things I have 90% done. But Doesn't it feel good to have your bathroom done?

  16. I'm so with you, miss. It's RIDICULOUS how many THISCLOSE to being finished projects I have around here… I could seriously open a store if I would just sit down and FINISH them. Ridiculous. Great job, Beckie! It looks fab. Can't wait to see the finished closet redo… I'm so excited for you!

  17. that last 10% is definitely the most difficult part of a project to finish! your completed shower looks great now though!!! congrats! perhaps I should think about finishing some of my last 10% around here… 😉

  18. if it makes you feel better, I have still not filled the holes and painted the trim from when our wood floors were installed TWO YEARS AGO. it did not help that the trim was pre-primed-in my mind I was all "wll, they are white, they look good enough, I'll get to it eventually"…or um never. Hey, is that hole in your floor going to be a laundry thingy? I ask b/c we, just 2 days ago, had a VERY similar looking hole in our bathroom floor, UPSTAIRS, to run plumbing and electrical to have out laundry installed in our bathroom so I NEVER HAVE TO HAUL THAT STUFF UP AND DOWN STAIRS AGAIN! woot woot!!!! Ok, well, I do until they put the floor back and finish the bathroom and stuff but whatever…

  19. JEALOUS!!!
I am just like you (shock) — I have corners that I still need to caulk from years ago. I've puttied nail holes and never sanded and painted spots from years ago. I keep saying I'm going to write down every little project and spend a month doing all of them…I've been saying that for years. 🙂

  20. I tell myself I can't buy any new crafts/project stuff until I finish the one to five I already have in progress…..I need projects anonymous.

  21. Great job finishing up the bathroom. It really looks great now! I think your bathroom closet is GINORMOUS!!! but that hole is super scary. I can't imagine what you are doing down there…..

  22. Yay for the bathroom!! Woohoo! 🙂 We've made that mistake before with caulk and it stinks.
