Project #4 and my Studio

So right now I am in the middle of refinishing my kitchen table. On Wednesday I posted,

“So far I have all the seat bottoms taken off and sanded down to bare wood. Tomorrow I will sand the table, the leaf, and the bench down to bare wood with the hopes of staining it tomorrow and polyurethaning (is that a word?) on Friday.”

Yes that was definitely wishful thinking. The seat bottoms are done (with 5 coats of polyurethane) and the table currently has 3 coats (I am about to do the 4th after I finish this). The leaf and the bench are still untouched. However, if I get my table and chairs useable by the end of the weekend I will be happy. It looks great. When I went to the store to pick out stain I didn’t realize I picked one so close to the original stain color. No wonder I picked the table out in the first place – I liked the color of wood. I am thinking I will finish up the leaf and the bench next week, there is no hurry on those since we only use it when we have our life group to our house.

Last week I went to Home Depot and found some OOPS paint in ORANGE (you know how I love OOPS paint). So for $5 I painted my studio that color. The room is far from being done but I felt like I needed to start doing something to it so it stops being the pit when people come over. You know…the room where you throw everything so people think you are all tidy and clean?

So this is what I learned about orange (being the color therapy expert that I am — NOT!)

ORANGE is the color of joy and wisdom. It stimulates and energizes us, and is warming. It is an excellent color for creativity. It energizes, and stimulates the appetite. Spiritually it is the color of joy. It connects us to our emotional self.

Sounds like the perfect color for my studio, except that I will be hungry. Not cool! It is against my religion to post pictures of a room that isn’t complete but I am learning to let go and enjoy the process and let my peeps see it as well. So this is what I got so far…

Since Joann Fabrics has all their home decorating fabric half off I went in search of something fun with orange in it. I found two patterns with the same colors in it and decided to go for it. So for around $35 I made a table shirt and a tie-up shade.

I love my 6 foot plastic table. I know it isn’t the prettiest workspace but it is so functional and easy to clean. So I decided to make a skirt for it, which will also give me more storage.

I bought a sewing table on Craigslist for $30. I am not sure if I am going to paint it or what (actually I would LOVE to do this to it) but I definitely wanted a table where I can keep my sewing machine out and not have to put it away everytime when I am done with it. I am hoping to pick up a wood chair with a padded seat somewhere cheap and cover it with one of the fabrics as well.

And here is my bookshelf filled with miscellaneous desk and craft supplies.

Ok isn’t the fabric I used for the window treatment just ugly enough to be pretty? It reminds me of my grandma’s couch growing up, which was hideous. But I love it and the vintage feel is has to it. I know mom, you hate it, but that is okay I love you.

And here is an update on my closet. I got some of those white storage bins from Walmart (in fact, I had to go to everyone of them in my town to find them all) to put fabric in and other things so it look cleaner and crisp in the closet.

I am planning on making cards to hang on the front of them to show what is in it but I have been a bit busy lately…LOL!

Ok so I know a lot of you think…does she have time for her son and family? How does she fit this all into one day? Well the reason I got so much done this weekend is because my hubby was gone Friday night and Saturday all day. Then he came home exhausted from all his meetings and did this…

In his defense it was only like 35 minutes, but long enough for me to get a picture. I love how the remote is on his belly. TOO FUNNY!

But seriously my son naps for at least 3 hours a day. Right now he has been sleeping 3 hours and 15 minutes as of this moment. So I move like lightning during that time and make it happen. I am not a sitting kind of person. I definitely am not a napper either. I do like to read but wouldn’t consider myself a reader either. I am just a project girl I guess.
