Let’s create another Pennywise present: Homemade Peppermint Oreos.
She had me at Oreo! Jamielyn from I Heart Naptime is here sharing with you not only a yummy peppermint Oreo recipe but also an adorable way to package it up for Christmas gift giving.
I am a huge fan of whoopie cookies and have made some of teacher’s gifts. These peppermint oreos would be a hit with teachers too.
Hi there! I’m Jamielyn from iheartnaptime.net and I’m SO excited to be here today.
Over at my place you’ll find yummy recipes, holiday crafts and DIY Projects. I’m excited to share a tutorial here with you.
I absolutely adore Beckie and her fabulous blog. Isn’t she great?! I’ve been loving all the ideas shared during this event.
Today I’m going to share with you a simple and easy gift to make for your friends and neighbors that will cost you less than five bucks!
Mint Oreos in a jar! These are fantastic and so simple to make. Let’s get started shall we?
Homemade Oreo Recipe Ingredients:
- {batter} 1 box devils food cake
- 1 egg
- 1 stick of butter softened
- {frosting}
- 1 sticks unsalted butter, at room temperature
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon Vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon Peppermint extract
- crushed peppermints
Homemade Oreo Recipe Directions:
Step 1
Combine egg and butter in a large bowl. Mix until combined.
Step 2
Pour in devil’s food cake and mix until the batter is smooth (about 2 minutes).
Roll dough into a ball and push flat onto a lined cookie sheet.
Step 3
Bake at 350 for 6-8 minutes.
Remove to a cooling rack and allow cookies to completely cool.
Step 4
For the frosting: Mix together butter, powdered sugar, vanilla and peppermint extract, until fluffy.
Frost one cookie on the BOTTOM and then sandwich another cookie on top.
I like to use a lot of frosting (make sure it’s coming out the sides). Then dip the sides of the cookie into crushed peppermints.
To turn these into a fun gift I found these jars/vases at the Dollar Tree.
I layered my cookies in the jar and then placed a coffee filter on top.
I added a glue dot to hold down the coffee filter. Then I tied a ribbon on top and it was ready to go!
