As I was on my date night with my husband I spotted a broken down crib on the side of the road. My sweet husband was gracious enough to stop for me while I inspected it and threw it in the van. The crib pieces were solid wood and had a great shape to it. I had no idea what I was going to do at the time but then I got an amazing idea. I AM SO TOTALLY EXCITED about this project. This might just be my favorite Roadkill Rescue yet. It is an old crib recycle turned art…and something else…but more on that tomorrow.
I decided to use one of the side pieces for a cool piece of art. Lately I have been feeling impressed to make sure that there is scripture in my house so my kids pick up on them. The best time to learn Bible verses is when you are young and don’t have so much clutter in your brain.
1. First we chopped off the legs to make it look more like a frame and less like a crib side. Thanks Mike!
2. Then I sanded and cleaned the entire piece front to back. Then I primed and spray painted it with my air sprayer with Sun Safari by Dutch Boy.
3. Next I wanted to add a verse onto the front. I got my inspiration from none other than from Dee from Red Letters Words. Using my Silhouette machine I designed a vinyl stencil and cut it out. It was huge so I had to cut it out in 3 separate sheets. I used some bright pink vinyl that was just laying around. Then I covered the rest of the board with black contact paper. Looks beautiful doesn’t it? {giggle}
4. Then I used the new Krylon Dual spray paint in Classic Gray leftover from my painted lockers project. Then as soon as I was done spraying and the paint was still wet I removed all the vinyl. I had a few spots to touch up (and an “h” to re add) but for the most part it removed clean.
Then I hung it on the wall…why is there a knob on it?
Hmmmm…
WHAT IS BEHIND DOOR #1???

I don’t remember how many cribs I have walked past because I didn’t know what to do with it, besides make a bench. Now I know!
I’m a new follower from Better-After! I’ll definitely be back to read more!
I LOVE THIS! But… I was thinking of a little twist… what if you used the black chalkboard spray paint… so you could write different scriptures up depending on whatevers? Anyway. I’m totally NOT crafty in anyway. But sort of inspired now! 🙂
Ooooh love that idea. That is so awesome, now I want to change it
