How To Make Geode Resin Art

Materials:

To make geode resin art, you will need a few supplies in addition to the items listed above. This includes:

  • Measuring cups
  • Measuring spoons
  • Craft sticks
  • Plastic or paper cups

Note: You may also want to have some cotton swabs handy for cleaning off any drips or spills.

Procedure:

  • Start by preparing the silicone mold by lightly coating it with a release agent such as cooking spray or mineral oil. This will ensure that the resin does not stick to the mold once it is cured.
  • Next, mix the resin according to the instructions on the package. Make sure to mix thoroughly and take your time, as improper mixing can lead to poor results.
  • Once you have mixed the resin, add pigment or dye if desired. For best results, use a single color or mix multiple colors for a marbled effect.

Tip: If you wish to add glitter or other decorative elements, stir them into the resin at this point as well.

  • Carefully pour the resin into the silicone mold and fill all of its details and crevices.

Note: Depending on how much resin is used, there may be some overflowing, so have a towel handy to catch any spills quickly before they harden.

  • Allow the resin to cure according to package instructions which usually takes several hours or overnight for most mixtures.
  • When finished curing, carefully remove it from the silicone mold by gently pushing against one side of it until it starts coming out of its own accord.

Note:

Use gloves when handling them, as fresh resin can be quite sticky and difficult to work with if it comes into contact with your skin directly.

If necessary, use cotton swabs dipped in rubbing alcohol or mineral oil to clean up any residual residue remaining after removal from its molding container prior to the further embellishment of your geode art piece with paint/metallic powders/etc.

Once your geode artwork is completely cured and removed from its original forming container, you are ready for further embellishment with additional decorative elements such as paints/metallic powders/glitters/etc.

Have fun creating your own unique geode art masterpiece!

What resin is used for geode art?

Epoxy resin is the best choice for this type of work because it provides a hard, crystal-clear finish that lets you display the beautiful details captured within. Not only that, epoxy resins are non-toxic and safe to use.

My favorite pigment brands are Resintint and Jacquard, and these materials help in creating excellent resin geode arts. Most importantly, the glitter is long-lasting!

With some preparation and creativity, anyone can create stunning geode art in their own home using epoxy resin!
