Now for the fun stuff that we added to our new fantabulous kitchen…
Because I have made him do this 100 times my dear hubby can install these in his sleep.
Love me some dimmer switches. This dims the chandelier over our table which is great because it is a little too bright anyways.
Next….after one cuss word and 2 hours and 15 minutes I installed these (the first one took me 2 hours and the second one took 15 minutes)…
I was always annoyed by the faux drawer front. I put the drawer handle on it just so it would match the rest of the kitchen. Then I decided why not make it usable space? So I got these little trays. The wonderful thing about it is that it is removable so I can pop it in the dishwasher when it gets grimy. Now my sponges and drain plug don’t have to reside in my sink. Muuuuuuuuuch better!
Lastly, my favorite part. How about a little ambiance?
My hubby installed rope lighting above our cabinets. You can really just lay them up there but the ones we got had little clips with them so you could make sure they were nice and even.
Next he drilled a hole in the top of our cabinets to fit the rope lighting plug through.
In our cabinet above our microwave there is an outlet (where the microwave is plugged in). We found this awesome little diddy at Menards.
You plug the SuperSwitch into the outlet and whatever you plug into it now turns on and off by a remote.
Above is the remote. I just added a magnet to the back and hung it above our light switches on a magnet board. Isn’t that so cool!?!?
I now want to get those for every lamp in my house. Maybe I can have a remote control breast pump too. LOL! Sorry bad joke.
I hope you have enjoyed my kitchen makeover as much as I have enjoyed the process. It turned out better than I could have imagined and I believe added a little more value to our home.
It looks great! I’m amazed that you did all this with a newborn. I’m lovin’ your cabinets…wish I could talk my hubby into it.
Love the lighting!
I have remote control plugs too! One remote can work 6 plugs independently (though we only have 3 currently). Brilliant. I love your rope lighting ambiance and totally agree about the dimmer switches on your chandy. Unfortunately Germans don’t seem to like the dimmer switch because I’ve never seen one. 🙁
Loving this series, BTW.
The rope lighting is just genius! I have been looking for a solution to add lighting and preferably something that would not require busting walls!
Thanks for the inspiration. I totally have to try this out!
You did such a great job!
Love the lighting! It is all looking so fab! Love your posts.
Where did you find those trays for the faux drawers? Were they very expensive? We just bought a house and it has those faux drawers in the bathroom and in the kitchen and I HATE them. I constantly tug on them thinking that they open. I would love to do something like that to make them more useable.
My goodness, girl, I’m more impressed with you every day! Want to branch out from mere brilliant tutorials, and just come and do the job for me???
I can see that I need one of those switches for the remote. I just installed the tip-out trays in my kitchen & bathroom. Ok, my husband helped a little but anyway…..Love Them! I got mine at Home Depot online.
I’m loving the rope lighting!! We installed it under the bathroom vanity toe-kick areas. It was great for middle of the night bathroom trips and when I used to get up with a newborn for those early AM feedings! Great job!!

It looks fantastic! 🙂 I’ve never heard of remote control plugs…now I’m trying to figure out where I can use those in my house!

Love the lighting…especially the dimmer. Every kids bedroom should have a dimmer switch!
And the remote – and the breast pump…I thought it was really funny! 🙂 I always use one of those for my Christmas tree. Works like a charm!
We were thinking about adding the rope lighting, but had no idea how easy it would be! Thanks for the idea!!
I guess I need to borrow you for an afternoon, well really only like 30 minutes since you’re a pro, to help me install those tray in our faux drawers in our house. I also need some of your creative inspiration for our toy room in the basement.
Wow Beckie — that little remote light is an awesome find. I LOVE your new kitchen — what an awesome job!
We are TOTALLY doing that exact same thing about our cabinets. Our beach house (well, not ours–but the one we rent in Hilton Head) has this and every year we say we’re going to do it. Just now getting around to it…thanks for the tutorial. I’ll make sure Scott references it many times.
p.s. Love that you said a cuss word. They are rare around here, for sure, but sometimes…well, “crap” just doesn’t cut it. Just sayin’.
MY brain doesn’t work like yours…never has..never will! I am just not creative-
I LOVE our tip out trays — we had the builder do them and now I see them at Lowes all the time!! And you know I love dimmers. How much was the switchy thing? I have lights above our cabinets but was just thinking of using one of the Xmas remotes instead of getting up above the microwave to turn it on every time!!
Love the rope lighting! Isn’t it great? When we redid our kitchen, hubby installed an outlet (on a switch) above the cabinets so we could have rope lights up there. I’ve not seen the “super switch”…I’ll have to check it out when we are at Menard’s the next time! Great series. Your kitchen looks awesome!
I’m going now to purchase rope lighting. Fantastic idea!!!!
I’m dying to know where you purchased the cabinet cubbys for under your kitchen sink. I’ve tried to describe them to the employees at 2 different major home improvement stores. They’ve had no idea what I’m talking about. It would probably help if I knew what they were called. If you could please take the time to let me know, I would be super greatful! Thanks
Chels they are called Sink Tip Out trays. The ones I got are by Rev-A-Shelf. You can buy them on ebay also.
Thank you so much for joining the party….and love the rope lighting. Genius move!
Hugs,
Miss Edie
This is very interesting information here. I wish I had found this first before I signed up for the other one. This is much better!
Great Job! I am googling Sink Tip Out Trays right now. I had no idea they made those so thank you.
Love those sponge trays in front of your sink…I'll have to remember that! Great job on it all – beautiful. 🙂
I love the rope lighting….We have the storage shelf near the sink as well!! Love it but I remember DH having issues
WOW! This is PERFECT!! I already have a hole in the top of my cabinets that my BF drilled last year for Christmas for my village houses to sit atop of the cabinets but ROPE lights?! I never thought of it! I'm going to tell him immediately when I get home!
Hi there! I just found your blog! I love your kitchen makeover! We made over our kitchen this past year as well. I was wondering about how you made the tip out drawers below the sink. Was it a kit? I would love to be able to do that with our fake drawer fronts but our new sink only leaves about 3 inches of space behind them. Is that enough?
