I have fallen in love with silhouettes. You have seen them everywhere…on plates, in frames, on cards, and on pillows.
Speaking of pillows…I added a little spin on them with chalkboard fabric. I know what you are thinking…chalk on pillows? Ewwwww gross! I got you covered.
1. I used Centsational Girl’s tutorial on how to use the Silhouette machine to cut out a silhouette of my son’s profile. I recognize that not many of you own a Silhouette. You can always use a projector, trace a shadow, cut out a picture, etc. You just need to have some sort of silhouette shape to start with.
2. Using the cardstock as my template I flipped the chalkboard fabric and my template over and traced it onto the back of the fabric.
3. Using sharp scissors I cut out the silhouette. I placed it on my fabric and said ”Oh it is going to look so cute!”
4. I didn’t know how to keep the silhouette in place without ruining the fabric by pinning so I just sprayed the back with some spray adhesive and then laid it in place.
5. With coordinating black thread I sewed the silhouette in place.
6. Using the last bit of Isaac’s baby bedding (GASP! I did it, I used every square inch!) I made some cording and sewed it around the edge.
7. I decided against buttons on this one (I was being lazy) and opted for the fold over closure. So I pinned the back in place and sewed it up.
8. I trimmed the corners and turned the cover right side out. Cuuuutie little patootie!
9. I put my pillow insert inside and got out my Chalk-Ink markers. Have you heard of these babies? They are awesome. No more dusty fingers for me.
I decided to write the meaning of Isaac’s name on the pillow because I adore it. However, at any moment in time I can use a wet cloth and erase the Chalk-Ink and start all over again.
I absolutely love it. Isaac calls it his “Bubby head” pillow (since his sister calls him Bubby). What do you think?
