I am Brave and Beautiful – a beauty movement that is sweeping the globe. Colbie Caillat started it with her recent song and video called TRY. My blogging friend Megan of Brassy Apple wanted to push this movement along and invited women from all over to share what they looked like without make up and I joined in!! Colbie’s song says, “Take your make up off. Let your hair down… Look into the mirror at yourself, Do you like you? Cause I like you… “

Here I am with make-up done, perfect lighting, and an amazing hair day 🙂

Megan and her friend Cobi of Peacefrom6pieces have been the team behind this whole project. Their worldwide vision included creating their own video inspired by the song TRY. The talent of Robbins Creative made it possible for them to pull it off. You have to click play and see the beauty and bravery displayed and you might even recognize a few faces in there.

Me along with 101+ other blogging women from different backgrounds, religions, ethnicities, ages, shapes and sizes have decided to be Brave and Beautiful! You can join in this movement too by sharing what you look like without makeup on. You don’t need a blog either! Just tag your photo with #IamBraveAndBeautiful on Instgram and search the hashtag to see who else has joined in. ALSO, if you tag it with a second hashtag – #ColbieTRY we just might be able to get Colbie Caillat’s attention since she was the inspiration behind it all!

Are you brave and beautiful? I am, here I go!

No make up and my hair just washed and pinned back out of my face…

It isn’t super difficult for me to not wear make up or to show you my au naturale self.  But at one point in my life it would have been.  If you read my Real & Raw story I shared how there was a period of time where I felt impressed upon my heart not to wear make up.  See I was that girl who always had to look perfect.  I found my contentment in the relationship in my life, who I hung out with and what I looked like.  I wielded my feminine wiles like a weapon and made foolish decisions because of that.

So when I was in college I went three months without makeup.  The first day I thought I would die.  But it got easier as the weeks wore on.  And somewhere along the way I realized that inner beauty was way more desirable to me than outer beauty.  That what was on the inside would last way beyond the facade I put on the outside.

Now know I love makeup.  I love looking my best and hearing I am pretty.  I mean who doesn’t?  But I want to be the type of woman that others feel at ease around.  I don’t want people to feel like they have to build me up or that my value is found in what they think of me.  I want people to be around me and think that my heart is so beautiful and that I bring out that beauty in them and that they are better for having known me.

My ultimate value isn’t found on that face up there – make up or no make up.  My value is found in my creator and what He thinks of me.

“The LORD does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.” 1 Sam 16:7

So what makes me beautiful on the inside?

Well I think what makes me beautiful is that I truly care about people, that I don’t give lip service, that I try and live a real and authentic life, that I speak the truth even when it is difficult, that I apologize when others would hide, that I encourage the best out of people and that I am a generous person.

What makes you beautiful?

If you can’t answer the question ask people closest to you and listen to what they have to say.  I bet you are more beautiful than you think you are!
