Had to try this one as soon as I saw it. Airfryer Sesame Crispy (really crispy!) Chicken. A great Friday night dinner.
This recipe will make you quit all those takeouts at once. Pinky promise. This is the most delicious Sesame Chicken ever. Crispy outside and tender inside. And the stickiness of that sauce! Yum!
Jump to RecipeInsanely quick to prepare as well in about 30 min. It will take you longer to cook the side dishes lol.
Let’s get to it! Video is below.
Sesame Crispy Chicken Ingredients
- 6 Chicken Thighs
- Corn Flour
- Salt & Pepper
- Sesame Seeds
- Spring Onion to garnish (and look nicer).
I have used boneless chicken thighs cut out in chunks. Thinking of trying with breasts next time, maybe in smaller pieces to avoid dryness.
The secret to crispness is to coat them in corn flour. You can do this as plain or add some spices. I am only adding salt and pepper since the sauce is already rich enough.
So, essentially and depending on how much chicken you have, just eyeball the amount of corn flour you need to give it a nice coating.
Step 1 – Prepare the Chicken
Cut out in chunks and coat in Corn Flour, salt and pepper.
Step 2 – Preheat your Airfryer
Step 3 – Cook the chicken as per your model instructions
In my Cosori, I have gone for 195 degrees and 25 minutes. Shaking it a couple of times to get the crispiness everywhere.
Step 4 – Prepare the Sauce
This sauce is crazy simple and It’ll take you longer to check the amounts than to actually make it. These are the exact amounts I used in this video recipe.
I go for Gluten Free as much as possible (I am not diagnosed but clearly benefit from it). And finding the gluten free Soy sauce is quite easy.
The Hoisin sauce is not that straightforward but it is better to make it yourself anyway. Check my Homemade Hoisin sauce in a Jar recipe here.
For this recipe and video I used the premade (and hence with gluten) from the store.
Sesame Crispy Chicken SAUCE Ingredients:
- 1/4 Soy Sauce (Gluten Free)
- 2 Tbsp Honey
- 2 Tbsp Orange Juice
- 5 Tsp (30ml) Hoisin Sauce
- 1/2 Tsp Ginger Powder
- 1 Tsp Garlic Paste
- 2 Tsp Sesame Seeds
- 2 Tbsp Water
- 1 Tbsp Corn Flour
HOWEVER, the next time I’ve done it, I have doubled the amounts to make it more saucy. And it was a success!
Served with white rice and steamed broccoli, it helps coating them in the sauce and make it more delicious.
How to Make the Sauce:
- Add all the ingredients except the corn flour and water to a saucepan in a medium heat.
- Mix well for a couple of minutes and let simmer for another couple.
- Mix the water and corn flour in a little glass.
- Add the flour and water mixture to the saucepan.
- Stir until you can see it is thickening and let simmer for a few minutes.
Step 5 – Serve and enjoy!
And voila!
Once the chicken is cooked and crispy, place it in a serving plate. Spread over the sauce and add some sesame seeds and fresh spring onions.
I served with green beans and white fluffy rice.
