It’s sweater weather! Chilly enough to pull on something cozy, but not so cold that it’s time to break out the winter gear. I bet that many of you have been doing the same thing we’ve been doing: pulling out the boxes of cold season clothing, and figuring out what can be worn for another year, passed on to someone else in the family, or tossed into the giveaway pile.
If there are a few sweaters in that giveaway pile, you might want to wait a second before you give them the old heave-ho. I’m giving all mine a second chance ever since Holly shared this tutorial for sweaters turned into boot socks with us. Weren’t those adorable? They definitely have me thinking about other uses for outgrown, stained, or otherwise worn sweaters. Check out all the tutorials I’ve discovered for upcycling everything from cable knit to cashmere with these 5 Ways to Upcycle an Old Sweater.

2. Baby It
Make It and Love It turned mom’s hand-me-down sweater into a completely adorable dress for baby. Talk about cute!
3. Decorate with It
Sweaters became vase cozies at Under the Table & Dreaming. What a fun way to signal that fall is here, even as you display the last pretty blooms from your garden.
4. Carry It

5. Stuff It
A scrap from a sweater turns into a pumpkin with the addition of a little stuffing at Craftaholics Anonymous. Perfect fall decor!
While I was looking for great upcycled sweater projects, I found some fun ideas that didn’t include tutorials. For extra inspiration, check out this sweater quilt, cable knit lamp shade, and sweater bangles. I’d love to hear about it if you try making any of them!
Such cute ideas! I totally want that purse, but it’s way outside my skill level. I may be able to handle the votives wrapped in sleeves though. Thanks for the inspiration!
We are just coming out of Winter and I have a stage of jumpers to be donated to the thrift store. I will definitely be looking at them again – I’m loving the throw pillows! Thanks for these great ideas xx Nat
Nat, Glad I could be of assistance…..I love upcycling.
