By raise of hands, who wants the following:  a dedicated spot to corral all the chaos of family life (coats, shoes, pool passes, cleats, backpacks, etc.) that manages to be organized, hardworking and pretty all at the same time?  I see that just about everyone raised their hands, so I’m assuming those who didn’t put their hands in the air already have the mudrooms of their dreams.  The rest of us…we’re still dreaming!  And that’s okay, because no matter what your space constraints or storage needs are, I think there’s a way to make even a small space function as a mudroom and look as good as the one pictured below, which was featured when the folks at Young House Love toured the homes at the Richmond Homearama.

A few of the things that appeal to me in this room are the built in storage, the contrast of dark walls with lots of white woodwork, and those unconventional faucets-turned-coat hooks.  I also like the pairing of traditional elements, like the board and batten, with industrial fixtures, like the light and the faucet hooks.  It looks like a mudroom that a real family could love and use day in and day out.

  1. Love those faucet knobs–just when you think you have seen it all:) I REALLY, REALLY want to do some work to our home that will result in our now garage being rehabbed and split into a mudroom and indoor storage room. THEN build a garage that actually accommodates more than one small car. My husband is on board but not sure if the money tree has grown big enough yet…my thinking is every family wants a mudroom. I think they run as high on resale as kitchen and bath importance! I have the whole room/picture in my head–ahhhh!
