Look For Less Turquoise Laundry Room

There’s something about a pretty laundry room that really appeals to me.  It’s probably because I love the idea of making a room that’s as utilitarian as a laundry room one of the loveliest spaces in a house.  So when I see an eye-catching laundry room, I can’t stop thinking about it!  Check out my latest laundry room obession, designed by Hooper Patterson Interior Design and featured at House of Turquoise.

This laundry room is a great example of how much fun you can have decorating a small space.  You can use bold colors and patterns without fear.  You can do fun moldings, trims, and wall features without spending a lot of money.  And you can turn a mundane job like laundry into something you look forward to doing because you get to do it in a beautiful space!

1.  Painted Cabinets

Wouldn’t it be fun to have some turquoise cabinets?  Life in Grace was brave enough to take the aqua plunge in her kitchen, and offers some great painting advice.  And if you prefer a moodier shade of turquoise, like those in my inspiration photo, check out some more painted cabinets at The Project Girl.

2.  Patterned Wallcovering

I love the color and pattern of the wallpaper in my inspiration room.  I found out that it’s from a line of wallpapers by Amy Butler, the fabric designer.  Which got the wheels in my brain turning, since I’d heard you could make your own easy-to-remove wall covering with fabric, and I found a tutorial for it by East Coast Creative.

3.  Tongue & Groove Paneling

A small space like a laundry room is a great place to test out a new look, like wainscoting, before you put more time and effort into a larger, more visible installation.  Use directions like these by Centsational Girl to try tongue and groove paneling.

4.  Weathered Wide Plank Flooring

Plank floors like those in my inspiration photo add great texture to a room.  One inexpensive way to get a similar look is to install plywood planks instead of hardwood.   I like the weathered, whitewashed version by Little Green Notebook.

5.  Fabric Baskets

Sometimes Crafter offers a tutorial for making baskets just like the ones in my inspiration photo.   What a perfect way to store lost socks and other odds and ends!

Are you inspired to make the shift from bland to beautiful living room?  If you could paint the cabinets in your laundry room any color, what would it be?  If your laundry room needs organization as much as it does decoration, check out the laundry basket dresser I made.
