mint coral gray sitting room feature

You guys, I think I’m in love…..with A ROOM.  This room, a beautifully decorated sitting room in the home of Katelyn James.  Katelyn is a photographer, and her artist’s eye for color and design really shows in this room that she decorated herself.  Make sure you click over to look at all the pictures of this room, because there’s something pretty to be seen from every angle!

What do I love about this room?  Well, the colors for one thing!  They are bright and cheerful, but somehow manage to be calm and sophisticated at the same time.  I love the combination of coral, mint, and gray.  And I can appreciate the fact that this room doesn’t have to be full of furniture to make a style statement.  It’s simply a beautiful room.

Well, I certainly couldn’t pass up a chance to figure out how to replicate the look of this room for a little less.  So I’m delighted to share with you five tutorials I found for DIYing some of the elements of this room.  Are you ready?

1.  Lined Curtains

It’s handy to have lined curtains if you are concerned about privacy or old, drafty windows.  View Along The Way shows you how to make your own lined curtains.   (The curtains pictured in my inspiration room are from World Market at a great price, but if you need to line yours, I’m pretty sure you could adapt this tutorial.)

2.  Nailhead Trimmed Barrel Chairs

Our Lake Life reupholstered two very shabby barrel chairs to get these gorgeous new ones with swanky nailhead trim.  And they’ve got the tutorial to prove it!

3.  Colorful Accent Table

Isn’t the mint green mini-hutch in my inspiration room adorable?  If you find a piece of furniture with a shape or design that you love but the finish isn’t quite right, feel free to do as I’ve done many times and paint it to match your room.

4.  Gray Chevron Rug

A pale gray chevron rug?  Yes, please!  If you follow Hayley Anderson‘s tutorial, you won’t have to pay a small fortune to get a rug like this one.

5.  Pintucked Pillow

Throw pillows are so fun, especially when they feature both color and texture.  Find out how to make your own pintucked pillow at Thrifty and Chic.

Did you get as excited as I did when you spotted this room for the first time?  Admittedly, everything Katelyn James used in this room is pretty affordable, so if you aren’t up to DIYing, you can view her sources here.   One big hint:  the walls are painted with Sherwin William’s “Sea Salt.”
