porch feature

I’ve been busy this week sprucing up my outdoor spaces, and I’m so excited to show you how everything turns out! (Read more about what I’m working on here.) Decorating outside can be a bit of a challenge for several reasons. If, like me, you live in a four season climate, you have to be willing to store most of what you take outside indoors during the winter, to preserve it from the effects of cold and wind.  In any climate, what you put outside is going to get extra wear and tear from the weather. With dust, dirt, and dripping popsicles nearby, it’s important for porch decor to be very washable. Finally, it takes good editing to make sure a furnished front porch looks like a place to sit a spell, not a crowded overflow from the attic. Check out these five porches that have it all figured out when it comes to looking good on a hot summer day.

1.  Coastal Charm

This serene space was put together with love by Layla of The Lettered Cottage for her mother in law.  Read up on how Layla put together this charming coastal look with existing furniture, thrifted finds, and a few simple DIY projects.

2.  Comfort and Color

At The Inspired Room, Meg shares pictures of her colorful front porch filled with vintage finds.  I love the fun fabric choices and those strings of lights.

3.  Southern Traditional

Pretty Handy Girl dressed up her porch with some terrific fabric choices.  Fun prints paired in unexpected ways pop out against a backdrop of white furniture.  With the hammock and all the comfy pillows, this looks like the perfect place to kick back and relax.

4.  Outdoor Gallery

I really like the vignette on the wall of this porch at 52 Mantels.   Emily created a very room-like feel to this porch by adding art and accessories that could withstand the elements.

5.  Beautiful Blooms

This last porch proves that a porch doesn’t have to be very big or have any furniture to be a welcoming, lovely space.  Taryn of Design, Dining, and Diapers did a complete redo with just a few small accessories and some pretty blooming plants in containers.

There are some great ideas out there in the blogosphere!  I would love to hear more about your best porch decorating tips.

  1. Been working on my own porch too for the last two weeks, hopefully finishing up soon.

Taryn’s tiny one is my favorite out of those 5!
