So the first thing I needed to do for Operation Restoration: Home Edition was to find stuff. I sent out an email to all of my local friends asking for dressers, nightstands, tables, pillows, and any other furniture items that they would be willing to donate to my cause. Our bible study group all pulled together working our contacts and angles that we had to collect stuff. So I decided to start decorating and furnishing the family room first. I figured this is where most of life happens and the most important room, in my opinion.
Denise, the mom of the family, is drawn to earth tones. We painted the room a light cocoa color. I also purchased some fabric from Joann Fabrics that became our inspiration color scheme for the room. I spent a total of $35 on 9 pillows. I reused stuffing from some other pillows that were donated so that really helped our budget in not having to purchase stuffing or pillow forms.
I also had a sweater in my closet that I purchased a few years ago. While I have always loved the gray color the cable knit hit my “I-have-had-children-pooch” just so and it was less than attractive. So I pulled it out of my closet and literally hand stitched it into a pillow. I unraveled some of the yarn from the sleeves and used a large plastic needle to hand stitch it.
Do you love pillows? I have a whole category full of handmade pillows I have made in the past.

Great pillows! I am in the process of making up some new pillows/pillow covers for our house to spruce things up for fall. And I was serious when I said if you need anything just let me know!

Love the fabric patterns and also the texture of your repurposed pillows. Earlier this year our W-mart had a 90% of last marked clearance sale and I scooped up a bunch of sweaters (90 cents each!), both for charity and to make some scatter cushions.

I saw a sweater pillow at Target the other day for $40, and wanted it but not for $40!! I have a TON of sweaters that I could repurpose!! You rock!

This is such a great craft! Everyone has left over sweaters or patterned shirts they can do this with. And a great way to bring your personality into a space.
I also made some pillows from a chocolate brown sweater last year, they turned out well. I used a scrap co-ordinating fabric on the back, so I could have 2 matching pillows, one from each side of the sweater.
So there was no waste, I also used the cut off sleeves. I sewed up the shoulder end, and left the wrist band open, and slid in a hotwater bottle for a hotwater bottle cover. Wrapped the wrist with a bow, and they are really pretty now.
Wow that is sure thinking and using ever bit of it.
