Spiral Bound Softback Books

Today I am going to show you a quick tip that I have done for years.  For the last decade or so I have been in a fall and spring bible study.  At the beginning of each semester we get a new soft back bible study curriculum.  About the time I had babies it became increasingly more difficult to lead a bible study while holding my book, bible and a baby. That is when my mom mentioned spiral binding the book to make it easier.  Why didn’t I think of that?

For under $3 I get mine spiral bound at any office supply store that has binding services available.  You just bring your book in and they do the rest.

The nice part about a spiral bind is that it lays flat on the table and you can fold the book back on itself as well.  Even though I don’t have little babies anymore I still get this done for every study.  It just makes it so nice and easy to take notes and fill in the answers.

  1. What an awesome idea! I saw the book for Bible study yesterday at church and it would be fun. We do BSF and love it! I want to do this one too but think it might overextended me…Thanks for the great tip!

Great idea- I didn’t realize you could make a hard back book into a spiral bound.
We are doing Precept Upon Precept (Kay Arthur) on Matthew for the entire school year this year. I have the privilege of helping with the teaching! Praise God for wonderful Bible studies that are available to grow us and nurture our souls!
    Thanks for the post!

  3. What a great idea! I didn’t know that could be done!

  4. I love this idea! So simple and so useful! I’m in a study right now using the book Captivating by John and Staci Eldridge. Ladies, if you haven’t read that book, I would HIGHLY reccomend it! I’m discovering so much about myself and about how God hard wired us as women. It’s awesome. I’m thinking I should spiral bind the study guide that goes with the book now because those little guide books are a bit tough to keep open and write in. Thanks for this quicky tip Beckie!

  5. This is a great idea!! Bible study books can be hard to “manipulate” with pens, highlighters, etc. Thanks for sharing, Beckie. :)

  6. Becky do have to remove the binding before you get it spiraled or do they do it? I was thinking of adding some blank pages between each weeks study for notes…

We just finished a book about Ephesians and now we’re do one on the Fruit of the Spirit. Luckily this book if already spiral bound :) !

    • Awesome who is the author?

      • Gabrielle Martin says:

My goodness! My life had been so chaotic and sad lately and now I’m finally getting back to you, sorry! The author of Fruit of the Spirit is Joyce Jameson. I can remember this now because it reminds me of James Joyce :) . Thank you for both of your blogs and your pinterest pins. I enjoy reading about you. You seem like a bright and fun person and I wish I could get to know you more. Thank you for your hard work!

  8. I have been doing this for a few years with all my piano music books. The bindings are never great and within a few months (especially for larger books) the bindings break and the pages fall apart. I advise all of my piano students to do the same when they start to get larger “keep forever” books. And I LOVE that the books stay open while I’m playing the song and the page turns are so much easier too because the whole book isn’t shutting on me.

    • Oh I bet, tat would be ideal for your piano students. I can’t imagine using the regular binding and having it close on you while playing.

  9. Great idea! I didn’t know that binding a book like this was possible. I think it would work well for cookbooks too. It’s frustrating to have a page open to the recipe I’m using and then for the pages to turn or close if they are not held down. Thanks!

  10. I didn’t know it was so cheap to do that. All the years I have wasted because I assumed it was too expensive. Thanks much.

  11. Thanks for a great tip! I’ve taken mine in to have hole punched so I could add it to a notebook, but this would be so much easier!

  12. This is a great idea, Beckie! We haven’t used a book for awhile….our Bible Study is written by one of our leaders and we’re going into our second year of doing I Corinthians. We actually have them uploaded to Scribd and then all the Bible Study ladies can go on and download onto their computers and do their HW that way – many of us now bring our laptops and Ipads and such to have ours typed in {my preferences for sure}. Love this idea, though!

  13. I.LOVE.THIS.IDEA!!!!!!!!!!! (IDEAS!) Thanks for sharing Ladies…..and I don’t know yet what our Fall study is…I guess I better find out!

  14. Genius! I had given up on following along in my book during bible study while holding/rocking/entertaining a baby. We are doing Courageous Love: A Bible Study on Holiness for Women by Stacy Mitch this fall. I just had a baby Aug. 1, so I am super excited to be able to at least keep my book open to the right page during the study. Thank you so much!!!

  15. What a wonderful idea – just confirming … you take the book in and THEY take it apart for you? I take LOTS of notes and those notebooks are really hard to write in normally. We’re going to be doing a study on James by Beth Moore. I’m definitely going to see if my Staples will do this! (Also like the idea someone had above of adding additional pages, I think I’d use lined paper).

  16. You have just saved my entire ladies group, The Twisted Sisters. We are constantly juggling with our books and I am sharing this awesome idea with them all via email! We are starting the Beth Moore study “Beloved Disciple: The Book of John” next Monday so that will give us time to get the books done. Thanks for sharing this great idea!

    • OOOOhhh I am a Beth Moore bible study junkie. I just started the new one by Priscilla Shirer and i like it so far and trying hard not to compare the two.
