Aqua Armoire

Last week I “showed you the progress” on the painting of my TV armoire in our master bedroom.  I also admitted I hadn’t cleaned the room or made the bed since I started the project.  Admitting that made me go on a mission to get ‘er done!  Well here she is in all her aqua glory!IMG_0438

Let’s have a look at her before shall we?IMG_0306 And the after…lighter, fresher…more today.

The armoire wasn’t awful beforehand.  It was a medium wood tone.  However, I have so much wood going on with my dresser, nightstands, and bed base that I wanted to lighten up the space.  So the half wood/half laminate armoire became my victim.  If you missed my post on how to paint laminate click here.IMG_0441I used Lake Champlain in Satin by Dutch Boy’s Refresh Line. It was a nice color but needed to be toned down a bit to tie in the rest of the decor.  I used Ralph Lauren’s glaze in Smoke. Here is a close-up of the finish.IMG_0440

I would love for the armoire to stay closed, it looks so much nicer with the doors shut.

IMG_0439

But here is how it looks 99% of the time.

IMG_0434I added $7 open woven baskets from The Christmas Tree Shops.  They were perfect for the DVD player and the cable box.  IMG_0435I just poked the cords through the basket.  Since it so loosely woven the remote still works through the basket but the “stuff” is hidden.

IMG_0436 I am absolutely in love with this space.  Where once my master was my least favorite room in the house it has now gained a little with all the little changes.  What do you think?

  12. Pamela @ Atmosphere ID says:

Great idea hiding your "stuff" i baskets. I may have to borrow that one.

  13. I'd put a cutting board or something under the electronic stuff. They say to do that so they can breath, that's why they have little rubber feet on them. They will not get so hot and the fan vent wont be blocked. I love the room, looks ultra yummy!

  14. Karen Richards says:

What a GREAT idea to hide your electronics! Thank you, thank you, thank you. As soon as I get home from vacation, I'm heading to the Christmas Tree Shop. The armoire looks wonderful.

Wow, it's absolutely beautiful! I love the color and glaze you chose. I've been wanting to refinish our large pantry piece since we moved into our house two years ago, but have been a little daunted at the enormity of it. I'm feeling inspired by your project, however, and am going to check out the paint brands you mentioned. Thank you so much! So glad I clicked your link from "Something I Whipped Up". Best, Jenn/rook no. 17

This is just the inspiration I needed to motivate me to do this weekend's project…which is, coincidentally, painting our armoire! I hadn't thought of using a glaze, but after seeing yours, may have to try that idea! I'll link back to you and let you know if I use it! :)
