Now that the end table is in place I needed a little lamp to light the area. I looked at yard sales and Goodwill and didn’t find anything small enough. When I went to my mom’s house last week I asked her if she had a spare lamp. My mom is the queen of lamps, clocks and end tables…I should have started with her first! She said, “Go into my bedroom – there is one on the dresser you can have.” Well I went into the bedroom and there were four lamps sitting on the dresser one of which was this…
I wasn’t crazy about the cardinal but it was the right size and perfect for the little end table. And I do loves birdies lately. The first thing I asked was “You don’t want it back right?” And she immediately asked, “Why are you going to paint it?”
Well of course!
Dutch Boy had sent me some paint to review. It is part of their Refresh Line which has low VOC’s. I had the color Lake Champlain in my paint sprayer (I will show you that project soon!) so after I primered it I sprayed the entire base.
I very much love this color but it needed some more shading to make it look more regal. So I used some turquoise Rub N’ Buff and rubbed it all over. Perfect!
The paint was a little dull for my liking so I gave it a very light spritz of some of Krylon’s Clear Crystal Glaze.![]()
I loves it! Isn’t it adorable??? Here is a shot of it all lit up.
Are you in love with this space yet? I have one more thing to do and then I think it will be perfect!

Not only do I love it, that was a wonderful idea. I wish I had the confidence to recover furniture. I just took a bar stool apart, freaked out and took it and had it recovered. Your sofa is so adorable.
I really really love how its coming together!!! your re work to these pieces is amazing!!!!
I love the lamp! What a transformation. And I am loving the way the space is coming together. I love seeing it transformed with each of your post. I don't decorate in a day, and you seem to be doing the same with this space. You are making it your own and not trying to go out and buying everything at once, I love that!
Oh my goodness…what a cute space. Great job on the sofa, and the lamp is adorable. What a difference..!
that looks so cute! love the color you used and the little birdie! i am looking for a pair of matching lamps for my family room….. does your mom perhaps have anything?

I never would have thought the cardinal lamp had potential.
What a great use of the spray paint and rub n' buff. It's a wonderful thing to be able to renew something like that and make it yours.
ok – - along with my paint sprayer, I am going to have to add Rub and Buff to my "NEED" list!!! I've never worked with it before, but I sure do love the results I keep seeing on your posts!! The lamp turned out super cute!
Aww I love it!! A blue cardinal…brilliant!
That blue is beautiful too. Loving your new space!!
I do love it! You picked some great colors. I didn't know that rub in buff came in turquoise! I just have it in a silver/pewter shade.
That looks great in this space. Very cute. I like the birdy much more this way than the bright red!
Ok Beck – I have to say…I was not in love with you painting that lamp! But, after I saw it in the finished space….I totally love it. Perfect…Thanks for making look beyond and find inspiration. Becky

Adoring your room!
Visiting from All things related. . . and I LOVE, love, love this!! SO cute ♥
I don't know if I would have seen the potential here but it looks stunning!
Be still my heart. Loving everything birdy, I covet this lamp.
Lucky! I wish my mom would just give me a lamp like that. It looks fabulous in blue!
It is too cute. I need to look at the Rub 'n Buff aisle. When I worked in the craft store, there were only metallics. 'Course, it's been over 10 years!
What ever happened with the round side table? Did I miss that post?

Sorry I am late getting to see your project…thanks for joining us last week for Anything Related! ~Bridgette
Wow! I have been addicted lately to HGTV, so I hope you have sent this in to them, or at least Nate Berkus! I love recycling uses items and making them work for spaces where I can’t find anything else and you have done an incredible job! I am finally getting rid of my apple theme in my kitchen and going with birds, nests, eggs, cages, and wire baskets. It is going to be all homemade and goodwill or salvation army finds. I am looking for a small bird lamp to fit in a corner of my kitchen. I can’t say how much I love yours, so if you are ever ready to pass it on, let me know, lol! Oh, forgot to mention I am redoing my LR in owls, trees, etc. with the main colors of teal, terra cotta, browns, tans, and maybe sneak a little yellow in there. I am really having fun with it. I really love your sofa also and was wondering if it was a slipcover? Thanks! Nancy
