Mrs. Awesome Snack Mom

Do you remember growing up and playing at your friends’ houses and there was always that mom who had the good snacks?  Oh come on…you know the snacks..

Well my mom was not that mom.  I think with her having grown up with seven siblings her frugality would say “ it is snack time everyone go home and get their own snack, Beckie come inside and have some of this…”

Ok so I embellish a bit.  I never did have this for snack but she did force these down my throat many-a-times growing up at the dinner table.

Then there was Mrs. Awesome Snack Mom.  We would be playing and she would bring out these….ist2_10202907-cookie-mom I loved Mrs. Awesome Snack Mom.  I vowed when I grew up I would become Mrs. Awesome Snack Mom.  And I have.  I heard through the grapevine that the boys a few doors down told their mom that I have the best snacks.  I have succeeded in life.  I am Mrs. Awesome Snack Mom.

Where am I going with this.  Well here is a frugal…yet awesome treat to make the kiddos in your neighborhood.  It is way more awesome in the summer but because it is snowing outside it made me think of this.

Snow Cone Syrup

1 cup of hot water

1 envelope of Kool-Aid

2 cups of sugar

Squirt Bottle

All you do is mix it all together and pour it into a squirt bottle.  It tastes so yummy and all the neighborhood kids will come running.  Add some shaved ice or real snow and you have yourself an awesome snack summer or winter ;-)

hee hee! great post :) I am also 'awesome snack mom' ~ even to the ravenous teens that lurk during college breaks! I love that they love being fed! it is such a simple thing to bring out a plate of brownies or sandwiches–and yet they are so grateful! :) will definitely be using that sno cone syrup recipe! fun!

How funny! My mom was always Mrs. Awesome Snack Mom and I hope to be that too. I'm going to remember those snow cones…That should put me on top right?!?

  3. Quilting in My Pyjamas says:

I tried hard to be Mrs Awesome Snack Mum, but we dont have awesome snacks in Australia…seriously! We have crap snacks.

Jello pudding pops sound awesome…never heard of any of the other stuff you posted either.

We only got oreos here a few years ago…we dont get cheese whizz and I want to try some marshmallow fluff before I die as well.

I'll keep this recipe , because I am planning to become "Bella gives me awesome snacks" to my grandson …just as soon as he starts eating solids.

  4. Ecto Cooler!! Ah, the memories! What about Burple? Do you remember that?

A+ on the snacks. I'll admit I'm pretty boring around here. Granola bars, pop tarts, and crackers. Not very exciting, but I think I'll need to try the syrup recipe!

  5. CONGRATULATIONS on your new title. And yes, we had one of those moms in our neighborhood many eons ago and it wasn't my mom either.

  6. Ok I am so NOT awesome snack mom. Now I feel bad. My daughter has a friend who is totaly awesome snack mom, I am even excited when I get to go there!!!

  7. Beckie's Mom says:

Wait a second, kiddo……. .did I not break out some mustard pretzels that one summer?

Or how about those Rice Krispie smacks that were lined with okra? You couldn't REALLY see the green coming through, could ya?

How quickly we forget…. (shaking my head)

  8. I am going to do this! My kids always want snow cones in the summer and we have a shaved ice machine, but we are always out of syrup! I am sure they will love that little recipe…Thanks Mrs. Awesome Snack Mom! B:)

  9. Tracy Suzanne says:

Forget wanting to be awesome Mom or even Grandma. They live in New York, I'm in Florida and I'm gonna make this for ME!!!! I love snow cones and now thanks to you "Awesome Mom" I know how to make the secret syrup. Thank you.

    Warm hugs…Tracy :)

Oh that is too funny! I wanted to be Awesome Snack Mom, too, until I realized how bad for you awesome snacks usually are! I will settle for being Uncool Mom of Healthy Kids. :)

  11. Amy @ Finer Things says:

Ok, I'll admit it. I'm more likely to serve fruit and cheese for a snack than something sugary. ;) That look like a lot of fun, though!

  12. I love brussell sprouts!!!
    Don't hate the sprouts!!!
    I must admit I don't like green beans though(ya I know I am wierd).
Leslie did introduce me to deep fried green beans and those are good, but anything deep fried has to be good. (except twinkies – yuck)
I had super snack mom especially when it came holiday time, b ut then you have had the cookies so you know. :)

  13. Thanks so much for sharing the snow cone syrup recipe!! My daughter got a snow cone maker for Christmas and she will love making her own syrup!! My mom too was not awesome snack mom!!!
